The World Economic Forum, committed to improving the state of the world, is the international organization for public-private cooperation. The Forum engages the foremost political, business, cultural and other leaders of society to shape global, regional and industry agendas.
The Global Communications Group is the central Forum team dedicated to communications with the public, media, stakeholders and staff in relation to the Forum’s mission. Through multiple channels, the Group is responsible for communicating the work of the Forum and its constituents, reaching, growing, engaging and inspiring diverse and interested audiences.
Why we are recruiting
The Group is expanding and consolidating its strategy. It is composed of four key functions: Communication Strategy and Communications, Public Engagement, Media Engagement, and Stakeholder and Staff Engagement. The Head of Marketing Content will be based within the Stakeholder Engagement function and will oversee the content of all communication to the Forum’s current and potential partners and constituents.
Reporting Lines & Interactions
The role will report to the Head of Stakeholder and Staff Engagement and will lead a team of professionals responsible for developing and delivering the Forum’s marketing content strategy. Internally, the role will liaise with colleagues across the Global Communications Group and the broader Forum, particularly the Forum’s Centres and the teams responsible for engaging with business and other stakeholders. Externally, the role may engage with communications officers, consultants and/or agencies and service providers.
Key responsibilities
  • Create a stakeholder communications content strategy, inclusive of marketing, and aligned with the broader Group strategy.
  • Leverage the calendars and activities of the Forum’s Centres, events, business and other stakeholder teams, and translate them into an institutional framework, multi-channel stakeholder communication strategy and implementation plans.
  • Create compelling marketing material and regularly update it in line with changing needs and priorities, conveying complex ideas in a simple and clear manner, helping constituents engage with the Forum’s activities and automating and digitizing processes where needed.
  • Guide stakeholder engagement journeys across channels: email, social media, and website campaigns.
  • Support event, initiative and report campaigns, engaging across stakeholder groups (business, government, civil society and others).
  • Act as the focal point on stakeholder communication content and guide various internal teams and external experts and marketing agencies as necessary
  • Gauge the effectiveness and impact of the Forum’s messaging to improve the quality and performance of the Forum’s marketing communication through data-driven insights and promote a culture of data driven decisions.
  • Additional areas of responsibility may include overseeing the development of a Chief Communication and/or Chief Marketing Officers communities for both peer exchange and coordination with the Forum’s communications.
  • Identify and remain at the forefront of the latest marketing and communication trends and formats as well as trends relating to the breadth of topics covered by the Forum’s work, informing the Forum’s marketing strategy accordingly.
  • Manage a team of communication professionals, acting as a role model for the team, providing leadership and supporting team members to grow and excel.
  • Represent effectively the Forum internally and externally where applicable, in interactions with media and external constituents, as well as at institutional events
The successful candidate will be assessed on:
  • Successful creation, deployment and regular adaptation of marketing content strategy highlighting the Forum’s holistic value proposition to business and other stakeholders
  • Successful creation and management of campaigns around events, reports and initiatives, for business and other stakeholders, across channels
  • Successful engagement and results by users across their engagement journey
  • Successful creation and development of the Forum’s Chief Communications Officers community, initially as a closed group and over time as typical peer community at the Forum
  • Strong understanding of the Forum’s mission and impact and the needs of the Forum’s partners and constituents
  • Ongoing learning of the marketing and media landscape
  • Successfully lead a team of communication leaders and professionals, fostering a culture of transparency, accountability, trust and institutional stewardship
  • Represent effectively the Forum externally, in interactions with external constituents, as well as at institutional events.
Required qualifications:
  • Advanced degree or equivalent in marketing, communications or related discipline.
  • 12+ years of relevant work experience in marketing, public relations, content production, digital marketing, or other relevant fields
  • Proven track record and experience of engaging across stakeholder types and managing end-to-end customer engagement processes
  • Excellent project management skills. Hands-on experience of building and delivering marketing and communications campaigns. Experience of working with a network of 3rd party agencies and consultancies is a plus.
  • Strong English communication skills, both written and verbal. Proficiency in other languages a valued asset.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills and ability to build and maintain strong relationships with internal and external stakeholders.
  • Ability to work under pressure and handle multiple priorities simultaneously.
  • Experienced manager with a demonstrated ability to lead, develop and grow a team.
