Gavi’s updated five-year (2021–2025) immunisation supply chain (iSC) strategy strives towards a vision of strong supply chains that enable the delivery of potent life-saving vaccines to every person when needed, no matter where they live. The strategy provides a holistic and ambitious approach for supply chain improvements, to strengthen the immunization supply chains of today, help respond to COVID-19 and future pandemics and emergencies and build a foundation for the future. With countries introducing new and expensive vaccines, and supply chains being expanded and modernised to enhance the storage capacities at all levels, countries must now focus on ensuring comprehensive stock and vaccine management. This requires robust planning and forecasting, maintaining appropriate stock levels of immunisation commodities including vaccines, proper storage and distribution, reducing wastage, ensuring end to end visibility of stocks and use of data for monitoring and planning purposes. This role will help countries to ensure that through targeted investments in 6 priority areas, the countries manage their vaccines comprehensively.For every child, Healthfor all……The Health Specialist, Immunization Supply Chain reports to and works under the guidance and supervision of the Senior Advisor Immunization, Post #83987, however will be outposted to Gavi in Geneva, Switzerland and will work under the direct supervision of Head of the CVM team.The incumbent will be coordinating closely with UNICEF and Gavi to ensure strategic alignment in the areas of immunization supply chain management, in particular stock management and ensuring availability of vaccines to contribute to immunization goals.How can you make a difference?Activities within the secretariat: Liaison with partners
  • Drive and monitor execution of the Thrive360 Optimisation project per agreed deliverables and timelines within the Project Plan (to be implemented through the reprogrammed BMZ/CDS UCC grant).
  • Develop and disseminate within the Secretariat periodic (bi-monthly to quarterly) stock performance reports from Gavi-57 countries and accompanying analysis / insights
  • Support periodic reporting of stock management indicators via the Secretariat MPM platform
As part of the CVM tactical team (UNICEF, WHO, JSI) the person will do the following
  • Function as a focal point on supply chain for a subset of priority countries (working with the HSIS focal point and country support teams).
  • Conduct of country Comprehensive Vaccine Management (CVM) Gap Analyses for CVM priority countries and development of supply chain systems strengthening recommendations based on identified gaps and share these with Gavi country teams and lead the discussions with countries as needed.
  • Co-develop (with country and partners) high quality supply chain component of the FPP/EAF/campaign applications (within agreed thresholds) proposals for assigned countries
  • Support the countries for initial set up and Operationalisation of the CVM Approach in priority countries as reflected in investments in country applications (TOC, work plan and MEL plan).
  • Identify, codify and disseminate lessons learned / best practices for comprehensive vaccine management, data use, leadership to secretariat teams.
To qualify as an advocate for every child you will have…
  • An advanced university degree (Master’s degree) in Administration/Management/Supply Chain management/Logistics management/Operations management or other related field or a related technical field required.
  • A degree in Public/Community Health or health systems is an asset.
  • A minimum of eight (8) years of relevant professional experience at national and/or international levels managing supply chain projects, ideally vaccines and related supplies is required.
  • Direct field experience in developing countries in public or private sector supply chain management roles.
  • Work experience in an international non-government organization; and development organization is desirable.
  • Demonstrable experience in vaccine management at country or global level, use of data for action, project management as well as organisation of meetings and events.
  • Fluency in English and French (written and verbal) is required. Knowledge of another official UN language (Arabic, Chinese, Russian, or Spanish) is an asset.
