Join us as new Legal Counsel to our Commodity Trade Finance and Real Asset Lending businesses, a diverse, challenging and exciting legal position within the General Counsel function. The designated work place for this position is Zurich, although alternative models may also be considered (including, upon demand of the candidates, partial working from home arrangements and/or Geneva as work location). In this role, you will advise and support our internal clients in the Swiss Universal Bank and International Wealth Management divisions, including relationship managers, account managers, Credit Risk Management and Recovery Management, on a broad range of international and Swiss legal matters and you will have the chance to cooperate with internal experts as well as with external law firms in a great variety of jurisdictions. The main responsibility of this new role will be to advise our Commodity Trade Finance (CTF) business with desks in Geneva and Zurich, focusing in particular on the Agricultural desk within CTF. Another focus will be to act as transaction lawyer for our Real Estate Finance team, enabling tailor-made lending transactions for UHNWI clients secured by mortgages and other security in various foreign jurisdictions. Further business units which you will cover include Financial Institutions, Trade & Secondary Syndications, Trade Finance, Ship Finance and Aviation & Yacht Finance. The role also provides opportunities to engage in specific projects initiated by business units covered by our team and to gain exposure within and outside the General Counsel division as well as to senior management. Finally, you will assist with any day-to-day legal issues arising from our bank relationships with corporate clients.

Your skills and experience


We are looking for a candidate with the following skills and experience:

  • A degree in law, preferably from a Swiss University (MLaw / lic.iur.) and bar admission
  • Ideally a postgraduate qualification from a UK or US law school (e.g. LL.M.) and/or work experience as lawyer in an English-speaking country/region
  • A minimum of four years of post-bar professional experience (preferably with a bank, a business law firm or a multinational company)
  • Previous working experience in/exposure to commodity trade finance or the commodity (particularly soft commodities) trading industry would be a clear plus
  • Strong analytical and conceptual skills to quickly identify clients’ needs and relevant legal risks, as well as to develop workable solutions to complex factual and legal issues
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills, team oriented attitude, willingness to assume responsibility, independent, motivated, resilient, efficient and accurate
  • Fluency in English; knowledge of German and/or French is a plus
