Mission

The Safe Sport Unit Project Officer will strengthen safe sport across the Olympic Movement to protect the physical and mental well-being of atheletes.


Main responsibilities

The IOC’s mission is to place athletes at the heart of the Olympic Movement, and Olympic Agenda 2020+5 has set the strategic roadmap including Recommendation 5: Further strengthen safe sport and the protection of clean athletes.

As Project Officer in the Safe Sport Unit your responsibilities are to:

  • Support and coordinate the development of program and initiatives to meet the objectives outlined in the Safe Sport Action Plan 2021 - 2024, in line with the following 2030 strategic intents:
    • The IOC to inspire and support the Olympic Movement in fostering safe sport and athlete well-being worldwide.
    • The IOC to ensure that the Olympic Games are at the forefront in the field of athlete safeguarding and well-being.
  • Support and coordinate the implementation of actions to address the 12 objectives of the IOC Mental Health Action Plan across the IOCs four spheres of influence.
  • Support the development of educational tools, programmes, and training to strengthen knowledge, understanding, and awareness of safeguarding in sport and to improve safeguarding and mental health literacy amongst Olympic Movement stakeholders.
  • Support and coordinate safe sport units interventions at conferences, seminars, working group meetings and commission meetings
  • Manage the Safe Sport and MentallyFit pages of Athlete365 and Olympics.com to ensure they are up to date
  • Review and track Olympic movement stakeholder policies and procedures related to safeguarding and mental health
  • Support Olympism365 safeguarding due diligence approvals
  • Collate and maintain a data base of safeguarding in sport and mental health initiatives
  • Coordinate community of practice in both safeguarding and mental health, including supporting queries and maintaining records.

Other responsibilities include:

  • Ensuring that the actions of the various departments/functions are consistent with the objectives of the project plan and are executed according to the timeline.
  • Contract management
  • Supporting inter-departmental coordination on relevant projects and updates
  • Supporting the fostering of relationships with expert groups
  • Supporting the Safe Sport Unit with the implementation of the Olympic Games and the Youth Olympic Games - time educational programmes, communication and outreach.

Education; language and IT competences

  • Higher education qualification and a minimum of 2 years of relevant experience in mental health, safeguarding or other related fields
  • Graduate of the IOC Certificate: Safeguarding Officer in sport or the IOC Mental Health Certificate is an asset
  • Knowledge of the IOC/Olympic Movement an asset
  • Demonstrated success with developing and maintaining multi-stakeholder relationships.
  • Excellent English written and oral skills, good command of French an asset.
  • Good command of Microsoft Office and Microsoft 365 tools.

Excellent oral and written communication skills.

  • Experience managing multi-stakeholder projects.
  • Proactive and improvement-oriented approach.
  • Personal sporting, athletic experience or background is beneficial.
  • Excellent planning and organisation skills.
  • Ability to work effectively under pressure in a dynamic environment.
  • Outstanding and proven relationship management and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to interact with sensitivity, efficiency and professionalism, establishing a climate of trust.
  • Ability to put ideas or facts in writing concisely and precisely so as to be clearly understood by all kinds of interlocutors.
  • Flexibility in working hours and ability to travel.
