Senior Engineering Manager

In this role you will be responsible for providing strategic direction, leadership, management, and retention of the Process Engineering team within Blending Business Line. Initiates, coordinates, drives, and oversees team devel-opment and continual improvement of processes and procedures to strengthen the engineering and design capa-bility. Drives the team’s performance to ensure assigned engineering operations are executed in accordance with company procedures, contract specifications, quality standards, safety requirements, cyber security policies and standards, and cost/profitability and scheduling targets. This involves designing production units for our clients in the field of Lubricants, Grease, Paints and Coating, Specialty Chemicals like Adhesive, and resins/emulsion production as well as responsibility for solutions architect functions related to front end design and digital solutions.

Your responsibilities

• Strategy and organizational leadership: Ensures development of performance targets in line with global/local targets and their achievement through regular oversight and defining required actions for improvement. Embraces and implements ABB’s core values and HSE, functional safety, cybersecurity, integrity, Diversity & Inclusion (D&I), and other people related strategies within the local engineering unit / team. Prioritizes, engages the team, and implements actions from the engagement survey. Actively participates in the research of new products and processes (technology watch and market intelligence)
• Customer and sales: Establishes and maintains relationships with key customers to understand the customer’s technical issues/requirements. Prepares technical presentations of technolologies and solutions for qualification with customers. Ensures delivery of technical solutions according to customer requirements, sizing units and equipment’s to meet the performance requirements. Drives development of processes/practices based on customer feedback. Provides engineering support during the bid phase and ensures that the resources required to deliver the technical solutions are correctly accounted (e.g., safety, cybersecurity, technical competence, quality, schedule, and cost requirements). Support the bidding team for technical offer preparation and design to cost solutions
• Technical leadership and development: Establish PFDs and PIDs based on general sizing and layout data related to a given Offer/Project, and lead the development of standard PFD/PID library related to our market developments. Selects the suitable technologies and solutions for each project. Develops calculation tables and tools enabling production unit sizing according to equipment performance and procuction capacity. Defines operating guidelines for the team and ensures their implementation. Oversees progress within their own area of responsibility and identifies and manages technical issues. Guides the team in building engineering / operational capability through training, mentoring, and shadowing programs. Supports the Business Line in establishing and deploying required frameworks / processes. Conducts and follows-up on certification process, jointly with the division. Ensures that appropriate processes are in place to capture and share best practices and operational experiences.Facilitates the sharing of best practices within the Engineering team, keeping updated libraries of Data Sheet, specifications and supporting strategic supplier benchmark to standardize our technical solutions. Participates in the drafting of Functional Analyses with the Automation Department.Analyses with the Automation Department.Participates in design meetings, HAZOP and 3D model reviews.
• People leadership and development: Ensures (with HR support) that their own area of responsibility is properly organized, staffed, skilled, and directed. Guides, motivates, coaches, and develops direct and indirect subordinates in line with HR policies. Provides direction to the engineering team with a focus on functional safety, cybersecurity, on time delivery, quality, and margin improvement.
• Processes and tools: Ensures the projects/operations value chain portfolio follows sound methodology and execution practices in accordance with internal standard procedures and that the projects are closed as per the contract specifications. Initiates, coordinates, drives, and oversees continual improvement of processes and procedures to strengthen the engineering / design capability and efficiency, utilize agile methodologies to reduce engineering lead time, and enhance functional safety and cybersecurity. Conducts management reviews to guide the operation of continuous improvement activities
• Finance and budget: Participates in defining the annual budget for their own area of responsibility and is accountable for managing performance against agreed financial targets and constraints.
• Risk and opportunity management: Conducts regular progress reviews and identifies and manages technical risks. Ensures the completion of risk and opportunity assessments (e.g. variation orders and claims) and the implementation of resulting actions across projects. Establishes and oversees Business Continuity Plan (BCP) and identifies, and manages technical issues. Facilitates problem solving.
• Planning and control: Drives team performance to ensure that the deliverables are met on time and as per the set contract specifications and safety, cyber security, and quality requirements. Ensures that the Engineering teams are adequately resourced, developed, and equipped to meet business needs. Monitors quality metrics / Key Performance Indicators (KPI), identifies opportunities, and oversees continual improvement activities.
• Supply chain management: Collaborates with supply chain and project management to negotiate with suppliers of services and equipment to meet the contractual obligations of systems orders. Selects the process equipment according to the expected performance
• Technical Consulting: Ensures technical consulting assignments (if applicable) are carried out to meet pre-contractual or contractual obligations. Defines operating guidelines for the team and facilitates problem solving.
• Commissioning: Ensures commissioning activities (if applicable) are implemented in accordance with contract specifications, quality standards safety requirements, cyber security policies and standards. Proactively coordinates with commissioning functions to ensure that designsare installed and commissioned appropriately, and provides technical assistance during commissioning
