In order to advance our diverse pipeline of biopharmaceutical drug candidates we are looking for a Senior Expert in the field of mammalian cell culture process development.

As a member of the Drug Substance Development organization, you will act as a subject matter expert for upstream process development and closely collaborate with peers within the Biologics community across functions and geographies.

Your responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
  • Drive the development, scale-up and transfer of efficient, high-yield, robust and scalable mammalian cell culture processes for new biological entities as a USP expert.
  • Define and lead the process development strategies and plans for drug development projects, from early through late phase development and up to commercial launch
  • Represent USP development as a USP functional lead in multidisciplinary and international teams and at the interfaces to related drug substance process development and analytical functions. Collaborate closely with partnering organization in drug research and technical operations
  • Own and drive process innovation and technology projects to support the improvement and intensification of fed-batch and perfusion upstream processes from vial break to harvest, including seed and main bioreactor stages
  • Act as a USP process science enabler and exchange and alignment within the local and global Novartis USP community

Minimum Requirements

What you’ll bring to the role:
  • PhD (or MSc) in Biotechnology, Biochemistry or Bioengineering, or similar, with at least 3 (or 5) years of relevant proven experience in upstream biologics processing or equivalent qualification.
  • Strong practical experience with fed-batch and perfusion mammalian cell culture process and familiarity with state-of-the-art bioreactors across cultivation scales
  • Strong team focus and passion to live and advance the Novartis culture of encouraged, curious, unbossed and integrity.
  • Technical passion, intrinsic curiosity, can-do-attitude and willingness to challenge the status quo.
  • Outstanding communication, presentation and technical writing skills
  • Proven track record to manage and prioritize multiple demands and adjust to a fast-changing working environment
  • Proficiency in English, oral & written. Proficiency in German is an advantage.
