About the role
The primary purpose of the role is to underwrite a portfolio of business in accordance with the business plan and the guidelines as determined by the MS Reinsurance Board of Directors. The portfolio will consist of Property, Casualty and Specialties Reinsurance business including both proportional and non-proportional.
Your responsibilities
  • Develop and refine a market strategy which ensures we understand which clients offer the most profit potential for us and define a strategy how to realize this potential
  • Make sure we are well connected with key stakeholders at clients and brokers to position us for profitable growth
  • Make best use of our table stakes in negotiations to deliver profitable growth in line with the company’s objectives
  • Secure a high UW quality and manage the portfolio at all stages of the market cycle in an optimal way
  • Contribute to the annual planning for your markets
  • Maintain up-to-date knowledge of all MS Reinsurance underwriting models and propose and agree improvements in collaboration with MS Reinsurance Pricing Actuary
  • Assist in analysing quarterly figures and producing projections to identify reserving levels required
  • Attend management and reserving meetings
Your profile
  • University Degree in insurance, business or related field preferred
  • At least 7 years of underwriting and/or client management expertise across different lines of business and geographies
  • Detailed and extensive working knowledge across Property, Casualty and Specialty lines of business
  • Proficient with the Microsoft Suite of applications with advanced skills in Excel
  • Demonstrated success managing portfolios through different market cycles
  • A good understanding of clients’ RI buying motivations and strategic goals, combined with the ability to articulate MS Reinsurance’s value in the clients’ world
  • Well-rounded personality with a strong business sense and the ability to personally engage across a client’s & broker’s organization
  • Superior negotiation skills with a high level of creativity
  • You must be willing to travel and to have a flexible approach to work
  • You are a self-starter who likes to work collaboratively while being focused on delivering results
  • You are fluent in English, any additional languages are a plus
