Job Description:

Staff Accountant II – Legal Entity

JOB PURPOSE:

To independently perform staff level accounting functions that deal with accounting issues of normal complexity to support business processes and provide further experience with Caterpillar accounting practices.

JOB DUTIES:

From the outset, the Staff Accountant II will provide technical expertise and will perform more complex accounting work that support business processes. Additionally, this position will:

  • have a comprehensive understanding of Caterpillar’s business and accounting practices, systems and procedures
  • apply accounting knowledge and provide guidance on accounting issues
  • participate on and lead teams

The incumbent will be exposed to a variety of accounting functions and accomplish a high level of complex and/or technical analysis, review various outputs for reasonableness and advise other accountants. Incumbent works on challenging, medium to high-risk issues and makes business decisions and recommendations as appropriate.

The Staff Accountant II is capable of handling complex accounting issues such as methodology changes, reorganization and accounting standards. Work is supported by a supervisor primarily through review of results.

Possible areas of responsibility are varied and of medium complexity, including:

  • PWC Audit coordination (local and US GAAP) & Swiss statutory books preparation and review
  • Review of work performed by remote external supplier
  • Ad-hoc Continuous Improvement projects
  • Financial accounting, including preparation of journal entries, account reconciliations, financial statements, variance analysis

Possible areas of support could include:

  • General Ledger / Legal Entity Reporting & Analysis (US GAAP)
  • Financial Systems (SAP, legacy applications)
  • Sales accounting, LIFO

BACKGROUND/EXPERIENCE:

  • University degree or Brevet Fédéral.
  • Must demonstrate strong leadership, initiative, inter-personal skills and the ability to communicate effectively. Strong process improvement mindset.
  • Knowledge of local statutory accounting, currency, and tax and trade controls are desired.
  • 1-5 years of accounting experience is required.
