Job Purpose and Impact

The Feedstock Merchant is part of the Biogas commercial team and responsible for the sourcing and merchandizing of the feedstock book across Europe. The role’s main purpose is to build a book of various types of organic feedstocks suitable for the production of biogas, both internally from Cargill’s vast network of assets and supply chains, as well as externally from the marketplace and our customers. Second is the allocation and optimization of feedstock supply to a portfolio of assets, to produce and offtake biogas, biomethane and other derivatives of the process.

The Feedstock Merchant will handle a network of existing and new suppliers, fulfill transactions and engage in longer term agreements, and will be accountable for flawless execution of the book. Focus on developing long term relationships both internally and externally is key for the growth and reliability of the book. Opportunities to engage in commercial supply and offtake agreements with 3rd parties will be encouraged, to help grow Cargill’s portfolio of decarbonization solutions and provide a diverse selection of bioenergy alternatives to our customers. The Merchant is expected to follow the waste feedstock market on a daily basis, as well as explore new potential sources and types of feedstock, and to keep up with the general direction of the biomass marketplace. Key Accountabilities

  • Coordinate existing internal feedstock flows and grow the book exploring new opportunities, making use of relationships and the internal resources at hand.
  • Build and originate an external feedstock book, sourcing from suppliers and customers as well as the general marketplace, to reach target volumes and gain revenue.
  • Optimize the distribution of the feedstock book, allocating feedstock to the most suitable outlet with the highest valorization.
  • Explore commercial opportunities for supply of feedstock and offtake agreement of renewable energy with 3rd party assets.
  • Oversee the execution together with the Supply Chain and Sustainability teams, tracking key parameters such as cost, volume, quality, yield, etc.
  • Generate position, P&L and market reports based on available data and information gathered by the broader team.
  • Research and develop opportunities with new types of feedstock, staying on top of current legislation and sustainability criteria.
  • Analyze freight and transport opportunities in the book to maximize margin.
  • Independently handle complex issues with minimal supervision, while escalating only the most complex issues to appropriate staff.
Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree in a related field or equivalent experience
  • Minimum of four years of commercial work experience in a related field
Preferred Qualifications & Experiences
  • Organic waste feedstock knowledge and experience
  • Merchandizing and/or trading experience in physical commodity markets
