FP&A Manager - Financial Planning

The Financial Planning team’s work is used to inform fact-based decision making by the CFO on Business steering and capital allocation, with a view on future scenarios. This is where many strategic and Business topics are made concrete to plan for their implementation. Consequently, project stakeholders include the Finance function (such as treasury, investor relations, M&A), Human Resources (Annual Performance and Incentive Plan) as well as ABB’s Business Areas. This role contributes to shaping the company’s future direction for value creation, within its complex and dynamic operating environment. The FP&A Manager – Financial Planning is responsible for the delivery of financial forecasts and analysis, management reporting, and animation of the broader financial operating rhythms for the ABB Group. Reporting to the Head of Financial Planning, the FP&A Manager – Financial Planning will be an integral part of the financial planning process and the ABB Way Finance Transformation Program. This critical team member will play an integral part in the continued improvement to efficiency and insight development across the FP&A function of ABB Group. Support of senior leadership in the creation of meaningful analyses and financial perspectives necessary for management reporting, investor communications, Board of Director (BoD)/Corporate decision making, capital allocation and ABB-wide portfolio management to optimize value creation and shareholder returns. This role is Global Grade 8 and will be based at ABB Headquarters in Zurich, CH.

Your responsibilities

  • The FP&A Manager – Financial Planning will lead the Annual Performance Planning (APP) process for ABB, in addition to actively contributing to the management reporting and 5 Quarter Rolling Forecast Cycles.
  • The candidate will collaborate with Human Resources leadership to develop, propose, implement, monitor, and enforce the ABB Annual Incentive Plan (AIP) and LTIP bonus processes.
  • The candidate will take on an active company-wide role in the ABB Way Finance Transformation Program specifically in the Plan to Deliver (P2D) Global End-to-End process by working directly with the program team to support the new ABB Management Reporting Transformation.
  • Moreover, the successful candidate shall have proven business partnering capabilities and the ability to effectively present to and engage with a wide range of audiences both inside and outside of the finance function including the ABB C-Suite.
  • The FP&A Manager – Financial Planning will support defining both the new Management Reporting and Measurement system for ABB using a split “set of books” structure for Performance Evaluation and data flows and supporting teams in the implementation of said system.
  • This individual will be a key member supporting the design and implementation of the new suite of digital Management Reporting tools at ABB, quick ownership and understanding of existing core management reporting systems and tools will be critical to determine how the company should measure the financial performance of organizational units spanning from Business Areas and Global Divisions to deeper levels of financial accountability in ABB.

Your background

  • We are seeking a financial leader with world-class communication skills, who has displayed excellence in project management, data structuring, analytics, change and project management.
  • The new team member will bring the skills and experience to help us build a best-in-class financial planning function. The ideal candidate will bring a combination of financial expertise, including previously leading a FP&A organization at a corporate/division/business unit level in an industrial manufacturing and services environment, as well as a classic finance skillset.
  • A proficient understanding of management accounting, controllership, and risk processes is required.
  • BS degree in Finance, Economics, or Business Management; Master’s degree a positive factor, but not a requirement
  • 10+ years of progressive financial leadership experience in a fast-paced multi-national, industrial, technology company
  • Strong operational finance experience (expertise in commercial finance, pricing, risk, gross margin expansion levers) with domain expertise in FP&A and how to tactically drive and measure value creation, supply chain and service business finance of a dynamic and multinational environment, restructuring and structural cost optimization appreciated
  • Proven understanding of different business models such as flow products, configured solutions, long-cycle projects with world-class margin review processes, service, digital offerings, software, and embedded devices
  • Experience creating efficiency in a Finance function by driving simplification, standard data policies and harmonization and LEAN management principles
  • A dynamic change agent: someone who can visibly deliver on goals and objectives in an inclusive, humble, but action-oriented manner and who can see the “bigger picture” through the financial results of a business
  • An agile, strategic thinker with excellent communication and presentation skills. The ability to clearly communicate and earn the trust of C-Suite leaders as well as with Senior Operators and Commercial Leaders at all levels of the company
  • Comfortable with ambiguity and uncertainty; the ability to adapt nimbly and lead and inspire others through complex situations
  • Able to act with speed and conviction in fact-based decision-making
