GPG Chemicals and Refining – Product Group Technology Manager

Working within Process Automation, you will be responsible for identification, exploration and implementation of technology/product development to support the Global Product Group Chemicals and Refining’s growth strategies and enhance and secure ABB´s global position and profitability in the medium/long term. Ensure R&D project execution. Foster innovation and develop and secure research and development (R&D) capabilities needed in the GPG Chemical and Refining. This role reports to PAEN Division Technology Manager and Product Group Manager GPG Chemicals and Refining.

Your responsibilities
  • Technical and scientific proficiency and leadership: Coordinates Product Group technology and reports to Division Technology and GPG Manager. Ensures the alignment of strategies, processes and corresponding R&D plans between Product Group and Division strategy. Follows up progress. Facilitates technology issues within the Product Group and cross Division GPGs. Is involved at an operational level in important and critical technology issues and/or projects within the Product Group ensuring adherence to R&D gate model process.
  • Technology direction: Responsible for creation and execution of the Product Group R&D strategy in agreement with Division Technology Manager and Product Group Manager. Creates, plans and follows up Product Group Chemicals and Refining’s technology road map in close coordination with the Division Technology Roadmap. Building up a Market Opportunity pipeline reflecting the technology needs to support the PG’ s growth strategy as input for the Divisions yearly R&D budgeting process.
  • Innovation and creativity: Secure and facilitate innovation process and ensures key performance indicators (KPIs) as defined on Division and GPG level to be tracked. Drives collaboration with public research, screens the market for new or complementing technology for collaboration or to feed the M&A process driven by Business Development.
  • Projects, processes, and tools: Ensures Product Group Related R&D projects are delivered on time and on budget. Ensures that actions and decisions taken are approved in accordance with prevailing policies and instructions. Drives, influences, and facilitates cooperation around market standards and guidelines important to the Chemicals and Refining Product Group.
  • R&D context: Aligns R&D with Product Management function to define market-oriented R&D projects for the GPG Chemicals and Refining and the associated products that are in line with the Divisions sustainability goals.
  • Knowledge transfer: Supports transfer of technology and knowledge between the different product groups within the Division. This applies explicitly to the technology used across the different EN product groups.
  • Network and visibility: Represent the Technology function to customers and internal/external stakeholders. Ensures representation to relevant universities and institutions. Establishes good relations to strategic customers and supports the GPG Sales and Marketing team on technology related topics including key pursues.
  • Intellectual property (IP) and risk management: Ensures PAEN Division’s IP strategies is followed of GPG level.
  • Finance and budget: Responsible for R&D budget and targets, set in accordance with parameters decided by the Division Technology Manager and Product Group Manager.
  • People leadership and development: Ensures that people processes are in place to enable the appropriate organization, competence, and skills to exist or be developed. Guides, motivates and coaches team and individuals, both direct and indirect.
Your background
  • Excellent relationship building and long-term planning at the executive and operational leadership level. With the demonstrated ability to close enterprise deals.
  • Strong relationship and results focus to lead internal matrix stakeholders toward a combined set of solutions best suited to meet client expectations.
  • Chemicals and refining industry knowledge that translates solutions into value-based selling
  • Solid technical background that will allow ABB to develop and deliver a set of netted solutions specifically designed to meet client needs
  • Global thinker – international business development thru corporate level sales
  • Assembling and motivating matrix organizations
  • Strong understanding of Hub and large corporate structure
  • Success in building long term strategic relationships across the chemical industry
  • Prior responsibility for more than $30M in annual sales preferred $80M
  • Business planning
  • End to end product sales and marketing strategist
  • Demonstrated understanding of the Discovery/Diagnostic demand generation process
  • Pipeline development that turns into financial based solutions selling
  • 15 years international sales management and cross Hub sales
