We are established in a new R&D facility in Pfäffikon (SZ) and looking for an experienced engineer who will work with a multidisciplinary team contributing to the development of new medical devices from the conception to production.

Your mission
- Specification, design and layout of Spiden’s chip-based integrated photonics spectrometer ICs
- Interfacing to external design houses, foundries, tool vendors, industrial and academic partners
- Concept and implementation for automated design environment (ADE)
- Reporting of designs and design choices
- Contribute to the development of cutting-edge industry-facing research projects in the biomedical and pharmaceutical area
- Stay up to date with the state-of-the-art photonic design methodologies, device concepts and their implementation in hardware
- Work on different projects and at the interface with other functions
Your profile
- M.Sc. with 6+ years or PhD with 3+ years experience in designing integrated photonics components and systems
- Hands-on experience with design and layout of photonic ICs, preferably for sensing applications
- Proven track record in the specification and design of lasers for integrated photonics
- Strong background in silicon device manufacturing, semiconductor physics, laser physics, electronic design methodologies and photonic validation and testing
- Prior experience implementing automated optical design environment and proficient user of either Synposis Optodesigner, OptSim, RSoft, Luceda, Lumerical, Comsol and related software packages
- Deep understand of photonic building blocks used in high-speed optical communication
- Experience in handling and manipulating large GDS files
- Know-how of running design rule check (DRC) and layout versus schematic (LVS) check
- Experience with scripting languages for Candence, such as SKILL is a clear plus
- Proven track record in analytical and problem-solving skills, multi-tasking, and experience in undertaking multifunctional/fast-paced R&D projects
- Team player and ability to integrate into a highly interdisciplinary and dynamic team, and work closely with spectroscopy and life science experts
- Experience in designing electronic sensor front-ends is a clear advantage
- Experience in working on regulated medical devices (FDA and ISO 13485) is a plus
- Background in spectroscopy, biology or medicine is a plus
- Fluent in English (German and French are plus), with strong writing and communication skills towards internal stakeholders and external partners
- Willingness to travel internationally to suppliers, partners and conferences (max 10%)
